When students are looking at a image critically according to Snelling " Reasoning and applying evidence, speculative thinking and metal flexibility follow."

The visual elements of a meme can be analyzed just like text. Asking critical questions such as who is the creator or this image, has it been altered in anyway, what is it trying to say and what point is this meme trying to make. You can also Fact-Check an image using reverse image search with google.

One of the most prevalent forms or internet memes is the image macro. According to knowyourmeme.com, " An Image Macro is a broad term used to describe captioned images that typically consist or a picture and a witty message or a catchphrase." Examples are found a the top of each page in this workshop!

Meme or GIF?

Is it a Meme or a GIF? GIF's (Graphics Interchange Format) are animated images and if you remember, memes are a unit of cultural information spread by imitation and were around before the internet. GIF's typically are used to express emotions or reactions in online conversations. Meme's capture a shared experience funny, dark, meaningful, or social, the sharing of that experience is what makes it part of the culture. A meme can be created out of any shared experience and you can create an internet meme using a GIF, or video or image. Memes can also be image macros, commercials or rage comics.
